Courthouse Fieldtrip...

We had the best fieldtrip at the Twin Falls County Courthouse.  It was so informative and really taught us a lot about communities and heroes.

Julie Sturgill is one of the prosecutors at the courthouse.  She took us on a tour of the old courthouse.  It was really cool.  We got to learn a little bit about voting there, we learned how old the building was, and we learned about some of the different architectural features of the courthouse.

She took us into one of the old courtrooms.  It is now used as a Grand Jury Trial room.  Ms. Sturgill taught us about some of what goes on in there.  Many of the students said this was one of their favorite parts.

Next, Officer Mencl led us in such a great discussion about how police officers help our community.  He also talked to us about how kids can be heroes everyday.  He did a fabulous job.

We were able to go into a real courtroom, where judge Kershaw spoke to us.

Last, but not least, the Twin Falls Police Department were able to bring one of their police dogs.  They told us about what the dogs do and how they train them.  This was definitely a favorite!

We had a great fieldtrip!!
