Courage

This month, in reading, we have been studying courage.  The students have talked and read about people who show courage.  Martin Luther King, Jr. has been a person we have studied a lot this month.  The kids have talked about what courage means, and how they can show courage.  We read a poem in our class entitled, "Courage."  The kids practiced reading it with a partner and then performed it for our class.  Here are a few examples of the reading.

Jesse James and Riley

Jenna and Laci

Ashlyn and Trinity

All of our students showed a lot of courage to stand in front of the class and read the poem!!

Reading Reward

One of our students earned 25 points in Accelerated Reading.  This earned him the reward to read a book to a first grade class of his choice.  He chose to go to Mrs. Hart's class.  He read the book Moosetache, by Margie Palatini.  The first graders really enjoyed this and he did a great job.  We love to celebrate reading in our class!

Dino Day

Friday was our Dinosaur Day.  We had such a great time.  Thank you to the parents who helped their children make dinosaurs to bring to school.  Typically, everyone brings the "bones" in and we use paper mache to give them their "skin."  This year everyone was very creative with what they brought and we were unable to use paper mache on all of them.  With a quick trip to Walmart though, it worked out just fine.  We had groups using paper mache, some painting, some using duck tape, and others using tin foil.  We even had some students who were unable to bring a dinosaur making dinosaur eggs.  It was super fun!

Here are the dinosaurs that came in:

The finished products are on display in the library.  We will display them for the entire month of March.  Please be sure to swing by and take a look during parent/student/teacher conference week (March 31-April 3).  The kids did a great job and many remarked that it was the "best day ever!!!"  I am glad we were able to take some time away from our normal work schedule to create.  Thanks for your support.
