The Littlest Christmas Tree...

We were so excited to do our Christmas play. As you know, our class has had a rough time the last little bit.  There have been big things for us to deal with.  It has been hard on all the kids.  I felt that the play gave the kids something to look forward to and be excited about.  I was beaming with pride at the end of the show.  They were wonderful!  I LOVE my class.  I am so blessed to be their teacher.  We have good kids.  Thank you so much for coming to support us.

Weren't our choirs great?

They worked so hard on all the songs and their beginning lines.

It was fun having Noah, from our class play Santa, and Braydee made a great little reindeer.

The trees were great!

Avery and Jolie did a wonderful job as trees.

The kids all worked so hard to memorize their lines.

The dolls and soldiers danced perfectly.

Noah had a lot of lines to memorize as Santa.  He was fantastic!

 Aren't those dolls adorable?

Those are some cute little elves.  Kinsey and Alexa were terrific, and Dylan was an ideal "helper elf."  He completed all of his tasks perfectly.

This really is the most wonderful time of the year.
Thank you for allowing me to share it with your children.
Merry Christmas!

1st Quarter Conferences

Wow!  Just like that...it is 2nd quarter.  I wanted to thank all of the parents who took time to attend conferences.  We had ONE HUNDRED PERCENT attendance!  That is awesome!  It is so beneficial to your kids when they see that parents and teachers work together in their education.  I am so lucky to have such great parent involvement!  I have such a great class this year and am looking forward to the next three quarters!  Thanks again for attending conferences!

Halloween Party

We had so much fun at our Halloween Party.

First, we got all dressed up in some great costumes.

 Dylan, Braydee, and Darbi

 Brenden, Kinsey, and Malia

 Lorenzo, Landon, Keegan, and Claire

 Alexa S., Sabina, Kash, Noah
 Alexa B., Brittney, Jolie, Joshua

Leticia, Cameron, Avrey

We paraded through the hall.  It was crazy, loud, and fun.

Next we went back into our classroom for our class party.  Our room mothers did a great job of planning a fun party.  We made a spider web craft, played Halloween Bingo, and got lots of yummy treats.

We had a great party!!  Happy Halloween!!

Thanks PTA and Parents....

Mrs. Brown's class is so excited.  We sold the most cookie dough of all the classes in our school.  We were rewarded with a pizza party!  YUM!  We sold around $2500 of cookie dough.  Thanks to all the parents who helped and thanks to the PTA for our party!!

Important Papers...

Tonight two important papers are coming home.  They did not make it in time to be in the Monday Folder.  One gives some information about Math Night, which occurs on Thursday night.  The other is a sign up for conferences.  Please be sure to review them and send back the parent/teacher conference availability paper as soon as possible.  Thanks!

CRHS Library Field Trip

Our students had a great time at the Canyon Ridge High School Library.  We had perfect weather for our short walk over.  They were able to review what makes up a fiction and a non-fiction story.  They also were taught how libraries are put together based on fiction and non-fiction.  Mrs. Johnson, the CRHS librarian, does such an awesome job with our second graders.
We appreciate all of her hard work.

We were able to fit our big group into the library.

Mrs. Johnson had lots of fun things prepared for our kids.

Mr. Hicks, one of the CRHS administrators, came in to welcome us.

Some of our classes smiling faces...

We had a great time!  Thanks again to Mrs. Johnson and Canyon Ridge High School.

Field Trip Reminder...

This is a reminder that we will be going on our first field trip tomorrow.  We will leave the school at 8:15.  Please be sure your child is on time.  We are walking to Canyon Ridge High School.  The librarian puts on a very nice presentation about libraries for us.  It is educational and fun.  Be sure your child is wearing good shoes for walking and brings a jacket.  It will be chilly.  We will only cancel if it is pouring down rain.  We can walk in light rain.  If it looks like rain, you may choose to send an umbrella with your son or daughter.  We will be back to the school before lunch.
Thanks and have a great night!

Class Pictures

Picture packets were sent home in yesterday's homework folder.  Picture day is September 24th.  Be sure to find the packet and send it back to school if you would like to order pictures.

A Former Student...

Today we had one of my former students visit our class.  This third grader won the reward to read a book to a second grade class.  We were glad she chose our class.  Students in my class have the same opportunity.  When we begin the Accelerated Reading program students can earn rewards.  One of the rewards is the chance to read to a first grade class.

The first few weeks...

Things are starting to come along in our class.  Students are starting to adapt to the routines and procedures of our classroom.  We are working hard each day.

We covered a short graphing unit in math.  Students were very good at creating graphs.  They struggled with trying to answer questions about the graph.  They did very well with the simple interpreting questions, but struggled when it came time to compare.  We worked hard on vocabulary like combined, difference, more than, less than, and how many more.  We will continue to work on this throughout the year.

Up next, in math, is time.  Students should all be very familiar with time to the hour and half hour.  If you see that your student is struggling with this, please practice at home.  Today we started looking at time to the five minutes.  This was very hard for students who could not count by fives.  See if your child can count by 5's to 100.

Thanks for all of your hard work at home.  If you have any questions, please contact me at anytime.  You have great kids.  Thanks for letting me get to know them.

Talent Show

Mrs. Brown’s 2nd grade class will be having a class talent show on Friday May 30th.  Please help your child come up with something they could showcase for the class.  We have discussed it in class and students should have several ideas.  They are welcome to bring appropriate music or props that they may need.  This is just for our class, and will not be open to an audience.  Thanks for your help!

Faulkner Planetarium

Friday, May 16, our class walked to Faulkner Planetarium.

It was a long, and hot, walk.  The kids did a great job, however, they were pretty quiet once we got there.  I didn't think they could EVER be worn out!!  Haha!

They got their usual enthusiasm back once we went into the theater.  We saw the film "Sea Monsters."  It was very interesting.  It showed many different fossils of prehistoric creatures that lived in the sea.  The show had recreated what these creatures may have looked like and told a story that followed one in particular.

The kids all really seemed to enjoy this field trip.  I have been so lucky to have such a great class this year.  I have really enjoyed taking them out on these field trips to learn and explore.  They are great kids!
