Merry Christmas!!

Our classroom has really enjoyed celebrating the holiday season.  We have had great class discussions, fun art projects, and fun class projects.  The kids are doing VERY WELL in fluency.  80% of the class are right on track with their reading rate.  50% of the class are reading at an advanced level.  I am so proud of them.

Today, just as we finished taking our Friday tests, we had a very special visitor.  The children were very excited.  It was fun to see each face light up.

With Christmas around the corner, I would like to remind you to make plenty of time to take it all in and enjoy. Relax.  Simplify.  Make memories.  You have amazing children that I am grateful to call mine for seven hours each day.  Thank you for sharing them with me.  You have done a wonderful job!  Enjoy the holidays!

Music Video Stars

We have been working on math strategies in our class.  One great strategy, for addition, is to know your doubles.  We made this music video to help us remember.  Watch and enjoy!!

Dress Up Time!

Every year the Twin Falls Fire Department presents a series of fire safety courses to the students.  We had the second of four presentations yesterday.  Our firefighter showed the kids what a firefighter would look like, should they ever have to come into your home.  He also showed us how the equipment works to help keep the firefighter safe.  During the presentation, one of our classmates was chosen to model the gear for us.  She did great!!

Hello!

I wanted to remind and tell you about a couple of things:

  1. We have early dismissal on Wednesday, November 27.  Enjoy your Thanksgiving!!!
  2. There is no homework this week, however, please check the homework folder.
  3. Homework folders this week include a letter informing you of the costume your child will need for our Christmas play.  Please let me know if you have trouble getting anything for the costume.  (The Christmas play is December 10th at 6:30 pm.  It is held at Canyon Ridge High School's auditorium.  If you are unable to attend, please let me know ASAP.)
  4. I sent home book orders in your child's backpack today.  If you wish to order, send them back at your convenience. Due to the fact that some of you may wish to use these books as Christmas gifts, I will send back each individual order as it is received.
Thanks so much for all you do!  Enjoy the long weekend.  May you enjoy good company and stuff yourself silly!!

We took part in the annual Perrine Halloween Parade.  These are the kids waiting for the parade to come.

Teacher Evaluation

Hello!!

A very important piece of teacher reflection is parent evaluation.  Information about the classroom teacher, provided by parents, is viewed by the teacher and the administration.  It assists the teacher in self-reflection and gives the principal information for the official teacher evaluation that he/she completes.

Please use the following address to complete the survey.  You will have to copy and paste the address to your browser.  This survey is anonymous.

A paper will be sent home next Monday (Oct. 28) asking if you have completed the survey.  Please fill it out and return it.  Thank you in advance for your help.

Fun Rewards

Today we had the privilege of hearing a past student of mine read us a story.  She earned this reward in her third grade class.  My students also have the opportunity to earn this as a reward through the Accelerated Reading Program.  We will begin AR soon.  Students earn points for reading books and taking tests on them.  Rewards and prizes are given along the way.  It's a fun reading incentive for the class.

Library Field Trip

Last Wednesday, the entire second grade walked to the Canyon Ridge High School Library.  Luckily the weather was fairly cooperative for us!!

Mrs. Johnson (formerly Mrs. Lancaster) is the CRHS librarian.  Prior to accepting that position, she was a teacher at Perrine.  She is very kind to invite the second grade back each year.

The students learned about the two different types of books: fiction and nonfiction.  They learned how to find a fiction book in the library using the first three letters of the author's last name.  They learned how nonfiction books are housed by categories.  They were able to look around the library and see what it had to offer.  The students were very engaged and enjoyed themselves.  Mrs. Johnson did a great job of making it fun for them.

2nd Grade CRHS Library Field Trip

The First Month...

We have had a very successful start to our school year.  The students have jumped back into school and done very well.

Our IRI scores were excellent.  Reading groups have been formed to individualize the learning for the students in our class.

We have been having fun getting to know each other.  We have a wonderful class.  I truly mean that.  They are so fun and full of good energy.  I am excited to greet them each day.

Most of the kids and parents have caught onto homework policies.  If you are unsure, please view the homework policy tab at the top of the page.

Thanks so much for trusting me and Perrine Elementary with your children.  I have really enjoyed them so far and I am looking forward to what's to come!!
