CRHS Library Field Trip

We are so lucky to be so close to Canyon Ridge High School.  The librarian there, Mrs. Johnson, is an old friend of Perrine's.  She used to teach here.  She is always very gracious to welcome the second graders.  She gives a wonderful lesson on fiction and non-fiction.  She teaches students how to find books in the library.  She gives such a fun lesson.
We enjoyed our walk to CRHS.

Mrs. Johnson started by going over our objectives for the day.

Students were sent on a scavenger hunt to find the book The Acorn People.

Of course...not knowing how to locate a book in a library...this proved to be a very complicated task.

Mrs. Johnson taught us how fiction and non-fiction are separated in a library.  Fiction books are on the short stacks, or shelves, and non-fiction is found on the tall stacks.

The kids loved hearing a couple of stories.  Mrs. Volle, the librarian assistant, read A Sick Day for Amos Mcgee.

Mrs. Johnson read a wonderful story about bullying, called One.

Mrs. Johnson was "mixing up" call numbers for books.

Time to go.  We had a great time.

Thank you so much to Mrs. Johnson, Mrs. Volle, and Canyon Ridge High School!!
